How to choose your first camera, and what are the characteristics you should consider?

Choose the right camera

Do you like photography as well as recording videos? You’ve been at it for a while and you want to invest in a new camera or get an even more powerful camera? You are at the right place to answer all your questions! Such an important investment requires a lot of thought in order not to be disappointed with your first purchase… So follow the guide!

  1. Do you prefer photography or videography?

Depending on the activity you practice the most, it is important to choose a camera that will meet your needs. Sony cameras are very well known for making very good quality videos, in addition to being lightweight and easily transportable, for your travels for example. As for the Canon brand, it is famous for its cameras offering all the qualities and settings recommended for a photography pro.

  1. What will you photograph?

Depending on what you are used to photograph as well, you will have to choose the right camera and the right lenses. If you are more accustomed to portraits, landscape pictures, or microphotography, do your research according to these characteristics. For those who like to take pictures at night, for example, you will have to choose a high enough number of iSO to take your pictures!

  1. What is your budget?

We often forget this, but buying a new camera is above all a question of budget! Indeed, the more you look for a model capable of beautiful things and we a lot of features, the more you will have to put the price on it. Of course, it is not a question of throwing away all your savings to buy the most expensive camera, but you will have to expect to pay no less than 500 dollars if you want to invest in a quality product!

  1. Do you want to upgrade your camera later?

If you want an entry-level camera that will give you the option of adding more components or upgrading later then the best option for you will be either a mirrorless camera or a DSLR. A compact camera with a fixed lens will not give you any future options. But generally, mirrorless cameras and DSLRs will allow you to upgrade and get new lenses, add filters, etc. So if you want to start small and add-on as you learn, choose one of those options.
