Pro tips to conduct the perfect job interview on zoom.

Zoom conference

Even before the onset of this global pandemic, we were all more or less familiar with having to conduct job interviews by videoconference. In recent months, it has become the norm for everyone, we spend all our time (professional or personal) in front of a screen in order to communicate. Since this is the case, we have some professional advice to give you to master the art of video interviews, so that you can give the best of yourself, from a distance!

  1. Make yourself comfortable

First of all, try to make yourself as comfortable as possible. You start off with an advantage since you’re doing the interview from the comfort of your own home. In order to be as comfortable as possible to talk to your interviewer, try to prepare your set up well in advance, take the time to make yourself a hot drink such as tea or coffee, which will make you really comfortable.

  1. Prepare your speech

As with all interviews, it is important to prepare in advance. Just because you do it through a screen doesn’t mean you can go freestyle. Take the time to prepare your hiring speech, and repeat out loud your main arguments. You can also write them down in a file on your computer so that you have them in front of you during the interview, but don’t let that distract you.

  1. Choose the right spot

It only takes 5 seconds for someone to judge the first impression of you. Knowing this, take the time to settle down properly in a place where you won’t be disturbed, and which is representative of your image. If you want to stay professional, avoid a fake background that represents a beach or a galaxy, it takes away credibility right away. If you are filming yourself in your house, think about tidying up your living room or bedroom, it may seem a detail but your interlocutor can easily transpose the condition of your house to your professional skills.

  1. Pay attention to the lighting

Again, it may seem like a detail, but paying attention to the light you use for your videoconference is crucial. Favour natural light, such as from a window for example. If you have no choice but to film yourself at night, remember to put as much light as possible on your face so that you can be seen properly. YouTubers often use a ring light to get a very professional look.
